80 Proof Lives
Debut Novel
My journey as an author began when I learned how to read. I wanted more than anything to see my name on the cover of a book and a worthwhile story within its pages. Over the years, I’ve written short stories and plays and other creative pieces. However, I let fear and doubt stop me from completing all the novels I started and from submitting my short stories to contests. I didn’t think I was good enough.
In the summer of 2009, I took a creative writing course in Charlotte, NC, just to
see if I still had it. I found out, I did. One of the short stories I submitted for
a critique was an early draft of my debut novel, “80 Proof Lives.” The feedback I
received was so tremendous and so positive, I decided it should be my first novel.
In 2010, I was back in Florida and I finished the novel. I had some positive interaction
with a literary agent, but unfortunately, I was not signed by her agency. After that,

Today, I know I’m good enough. God has blessed me enormously. I am a living testament to hold fast to your dreams. Never give up on them; they’re worth pursuing.
I currently live in Florida with my husband, Baron, and my three beautiful children – Adahlia, Anaya and Aaron. They encourage me daily.
